This was my first Karin Slaughter book and it certainly won't be my last (in fact, I've already started another one). This book was very dark and graphic but it was an incredible roller coaster. There were multiple plot twists I never saw coming.

The novel mostly takes place in the present day where a recent tragedy has occurred but also flashes back to a family tragedy that happened in 1989. The dynamic between our two protagonists, sisters named Charlie and Sam, is incredibly interesting to read.

I don't want to say too much else because I would spoil something but if you're into dark thrillers, you would love this. Readers beware that there are graphic depictions of rape, murder, and miscarriage in this novel.
