I'm very late to the party since this was my first Sarah J. Maas experience, but I really enjoyed it! I found the main character, Feyre, fairly real and relatable, but with moments of faint Mary Sue. Still enjoyable though. The romance felt realistic and reasonably developed, and I appreciate the authors willingness to get dark and gory when the situation calls for it, which kept the book from being your basic soppy love story. My one gripe, pretty much, is right at the end, when Feyre has to solve a riddle to defeat the antagonist. The whole book, she shows so much intelligence and quick wit, but she can't solve a riddle that's like, insultingly obvious, in three months? It just felt very ooc and silly to me, and left a little sour taste on the end of the book. Aside from that, I really liked it! Based on a cursory look at the sequels though, I don't think I'll be reading them, and will instead pretend this is a happily ever after standalone book.

Edit- I forgot to add that I also read this one as brain fluff, not to think, so I am choosing to ignore the dubious consent and overall manipulative circumstances of the main romance. Not today critical thinking, not today.
