A Brush with Love
by Mazey Eddings
Pretty forgettable. I like that it's set in Philly (at least I think, at one point he goes to 30th street station to take the train/trolley to Haverford). But it's about an FMC with mental illness levels of anxiety and panic attacks who is studying to be a dentist / oral surgeon? And the MMC is a nontraditional, 26-year-old first year dental student who is only there to fulfill his family demands of becoming a dentist to carry on their legacy (I think the dad died and the mom turned her relationship with her son toxic by demanding he do this to help their struggling dental practice). FMC doesn't want to date MMC because he's just a distraction and she plans to move away to wherever her residency takes her. The 80% breakup is when they're clearly in a relationship and just had sex and she FREAKS OUT because she realizes she got the date wrong and has an exam tomorrow. She is insanely rude, blames him for distracting her, studies all night and sleeps in too late so she misses the exam anyway. This further leads to her blacking out from panic, falling and concussing herself which further panics her as it'll set her back even more. She lashes out at MMC and tells him she never wants to see him again. Time skips and he's reconciled with his mom that he will not become a dentist and instead goes back into business. And she's doing better and I think purposely chooses a residency near him and she asks them to get back together.
What made this worse is that when FMC has he freak out, it's told from MMC's POV which has a male narrator and he has zero empathy when doing her voice so it just makes FMC look even worse. Something like that was clearly all her fault to begin with.
