“You’re some kind of actual Black girl magic.”

Briseis has the power to grow plants. It’s a power that she and her adoptive parents have tried to hide for years. But when an aunt she never met leaves her the family estate in her death, Briseis and her mothers go to see if they can make it livable. What awaits for them once they get there is a magical adventure full of danger, friendship, and betrayal.

I went into this book mostly blind after seeing it being raved about on BookTok. The cover itself caught my attention and the story swept me away. I didn’t want to put it down and it completely enthralled me. The cliffhanger it left me on has me ready to read the second one. A new take on modern-day Greek mythology with its own Black girl magic, This Poison Heart is probably one of my favorite reads all month.
