Surly Romance by Nia Arthurs

I have only ove major question and it's killing me. It was written that mama Moira lives "across the country" but then (without spoilers) someone drives there and back in a day, multiple times in the story.

In America to drive across the country is like an 18 hour trip if you literally never have to stop for gas, food or sleep. Did the author mean across the state, or perhaps *in* the country, referring to just being out of the city? I know it's a minor detail but I'm literally losing sleep over it. There's absolutely no way she lives across the country.
