In Every Generation by Kendare Blake

2.0

*this book was sent to me by the publisher to give an honest review in return*

This was an okay read which takes place in the Buffy the Vampire Slayer world but with new characters. Now let me say that when I first signed up to read this book, I thought that this book was SIMILAR to Buffy instead of knowing that it takes PLACE in the Buffy universe. So when I picked it up and started reading, I was a little confused with why there were so many references in the book only to find out it was Buffy related (and I didn't want to show :/ ) so I was completely lost. The author's writing was still really good and I have read Blake's books in the past, so it was the writing at all. Though some would say that this book is more of a fanfiction and even though I don't know a lot about Buffy, honestly this would be great fanfiction. The pacing was well done with many conflicts and twists and turns. Honestly the writing was very well done but with the whole story taking place in the Buffy universe, I would be lost half of the time.

Our main character in this book is Frankie who is the new vampire slayer. I didn't feel connected to her as she was kind of a young, basic character with not much character growth. She was always saved by someone and didn't show the bada** side of her which I usually enjoy in a heroine. She also didn't have much of a character development in the book. There were many side characters in the book but honestly I didn't feel connected with them either but they were better than Frankie. I also loved the representation that the author showed in the book but the menstruation jokes were just not it. There is romance in this book but it's not the main factor of the story with 1/5 level of steaminess.

The ending was whatever in my opinion and ended in a different type of cliffhanger. It was more rushed with so many questions that needed to be answers which I guess could be answered in the second book. I think this book would have honestly been so much better if I watched the show and actually read the review closely. I was just so excited to be chosen to read this book for a tour because I have seen some hype for it plus it involved vampires so I was like why the heck not. Even though this book might have not been for me, I recommend it to fans of Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
