I'm oficially a fan of Novik's retellings. I don't really think this one is a Beauty and the Beast retelling as much as its advertisement says, but I really liked it nonetheless in its fairytale style. In fact, I liked it more than Spinning Silver, which was the first Novik's book I read.

Uprooted is more dynamic, the story never stops being interested. I never wanted to put down the book, even though I've been analysing it as part of my Master Thesis and my mind got tired easily. I like how all the characters are always very complex, so that even the "evil" ones are likeable (I love villains anyway, but a good written villain is always more likeable).

The only thing I didn't like was the last chapter: the story ends with some things open and that's fine, because I didn't feel like there was that much you could explore anyways; BUT the love story is very abrupt in the end. I would have prefer not knowing what happened with the Dragon than him returning and he and Agnieszka having such an abrupt happily-ever-after. I loved their relationship and how it evolved throughout the novel, but this ending was quite meh for my taste.
