The Last Graduate by Naomi Novik

5.0

I’m angry, but I’m not even angry at the author or the story. It was, like... I didn’t foresee the majority of the events, I let myself go with the flow. I enjoyed it when I found out the title’s reason, but-… What. The. Hell.

We already know that El isn’t the type of girl that everyone thinks of, but you still have to be surprised. There are a ton of things that she isn’t used to, therefore, we neither. We see more of the friendship, we see more of the dynamic, we see more of the Scholomance. It should have been for the last time, because we were about to graduate, right? Right?!

I’m not telling you they don’t graduate, they do, it’s the whole purpose of this second book. But. And it’s a big but. I won’t tell you. I didn’t expect anything that happened in the book, but the last one, and it’s the only one I can’t overcome. I see it coming with every word that lengthened the end and even when there were no more words, there was no room for anything else! And goddamnit, I hate it! Because it was the end, and I need to wait to know what happen next.

I still didn’t like Orion Lake, but his story touches me. I’m fond of Aadhya, but I prefer Liu, especially near the end. I don’t stand Chloe, but I don’t even think is Chloe’s fault. I even liked Nkyoko. And I think I should read it again to know where the hell did Liesel come from. I loved the small details, with Precious, Ibrahim, and Yakov. All of them did great, every one of them. But we’re not done yet.
