WARNING: This is going to be a rant. To be clear, I skim read it after the the first half because there is only so much pain I will put myself through.
Terrible pacing, unlikable characters, completely inaccurate representation of England and Scotland to the point that it took me out of the narrative entirely. Bardshire??? Really???
Also very limited romance for something claiming to be a sapphic romance book, very limited witchcraft for something claiming to be a witchy book, very flat characters, a very obvious plot “twist” (which would be less of a problem if there was more than just the barest hint of a storyline), and just generally the worst book I have had the misfortune to pick up in over a decade. It jumps around all over the place and gets nowhere good.
And the prose!!?!? This woman cannot write a decent paragraph to save her life, it is so unreadable it metaphorically made my eyes bleed. Also we call them fireflies, not lightning bugs, over here!!!
Do not bother reading this book - it is trash and not even entertaining trash. Also, I do not know what the hell kind of historical period is supposed to be set in because the first part seems to be Regency but the rest of the book appears to be intended as more mediaeval which is just… ARGH!!! How is this the only sapphic cottage core book I’ve been able to find???
Ok, rant over now.
