Lily Bloom comes from an abusive household, which really dictates how she feels about both her parents. After her father dies and she is asked to give his eulogy she freezes up because she doesn’t know what to say good about her father. The story begins when she goes up to a roof to blow off some steam, however, she’s not the only one there to get a bit of fresh air. She starts talking with this guy named Ryle, creating a bond. She talks to him about her father hitting her mother, about the first love of her life, and about her dream to have a floral shop. He starts talking too, and that’s when they realize they’re opposite poles. When they were getting comfortable, Ryle is called into work and leaves. 6 months later, she opens her floral shop and the person she least thought would enter through that door comes right in.
