Absolutely everything I wanted it to be and MORE! I’m ready to join a pirate crew if I can sail with people as wonderful as these characters. The storytelling is rich with lore and historical references while being easy to follow. I was so entertained with the adventure that I couldn’t put it down. There is a huge cast of characters and magical creatures. They all went through such a range of emotions and I was right there with them because of the beautiful writing. I will be picking this up again before the sequel comes out!

I loved this story so much that I immediately started listening to it again. I still had the audiobook on loan so why not?! (I have never thought to do this before with any other book) and it was an even bigger delight the second time! I loved

getting to catch all of Amina’s references to Jamal and know who that was and why she was saying those things. Jamal is one of the best trans rep I have ever read in a fantasy novel.

I may ACTUALLY look up the accompanying documents and read a source recommendation!
