A Study in Scarlet Women by Sherry Thomas
3.0

Lady Sherlock is a brilliant re-imagining of everyone’s favourite detective, Sherlock Holmes. What you should be aware of before going in is that while there are many characters that are supposed to be based on their counterparts in the original, this series is built very loosely around the original characters (Watson, mrs Hudson, Mycroft, Moriarty). I particularly enjoyed Charlotte’s character, Sherry Thomas does not sidestep the difficulty a lady detective or, indeed an intelligent woman in Victorian England would have faced, and the series is realistic in portraying the plight of women while building a strong and more than capable female lead arising from the unlikeliest of circumstances.

While I enjoyed the characters very much, the actual mystery in this book could have been more engaging and interesting. I am totally hooked on the entire series though and Charlotte + Lord Ingram are so compelling and well written, I loved every page they were on. They have so much chemistry and make for such an interesting pairing, mainly because of the eccentricities of Charlotte’s character.
