The Ragpicker King by Cassandra Clare
4.0
for the most part, this book was a 4 star.
I mean it goes without saying that her characters and plot lines are incredible while still maintaining a uniqueness to them. It's honestly so refreshing to see something so new in the fantasy world, especially with the surge booktok has on many of the popular reads in the genre today. I did really like how she progressed both of the romance subplots throughout this book. She definitely takes the slower approach, which may not be for everyone, but I thoroughly enjoyed both of them. It was pretty predictable of her to add a cliffhanger onto this book, since it's known that she is going to make a third, but I'm not totally sold on how this one ended. I think it was just ok, is all.
It very obviously took me more than a month to get through this book, and I will say that it has to down to the pace of the storyline being pretty slow at some points. Although overall it was enjoyable, I struggled getting into it at first. That usually is true for the first book to a fantasy series, not the second. I don't hold any hate for it in that regard, but it is something to point out.
Overall, I very good read, and solid addition to this storyline. I'm excited to see how Clare continues this series in the third!
