Old City Hall by Robert Rotenberg

3.0

I read this for the Toronto setting, trying to read more books set in my city.
It kept the pages turning and there were a few times I was really into the story, during the scenes in the courthouse mostly.
The flaws, too many characters not fleshed out enough and too confusing a resolution. He did it, no she did it, no his brother from Italy who was murdered 20 years ago did it. I'm still not quite sure who did it.
The client who wouldn't speak was an interesting and unique plot twist.
I gather this book is the first of a series but read the book and try and guess which character the series follows and you wouldn't be able to. I think it's the guy with the elderly father but I wouldn't say I know what his job is or his role in the story. The Crown Counsel maybe? And I just finished the book five minutes ago. Little things like its mentioned that a cop is black and then never mentioned again. Good for a post-racial world, bad if you're trying to remember which of the 15 cops in the book the author is talking about.
Also too much Maple Leaf hockey.
Good minus.
