Things We Lost in the Fire by Mariana Enríquez

How I read this: borrowed from the library

It's always so hard to rate story collections. Some of the stories in this one were genuinely creepy and strong. But some were simply "what just happened?" I guess different stories will appeal to different folks. And I admit to completely not getting the last story which the book is named after - I think that's because culturally, I am too far away from where this book was written, and I also don't know the required history, so I can't rate it too strictly. As for the writing - the writing was brilliant, that's for sure. And yet, the book was still something of a chore for me.
