This was a tough one to get through and I won't be reaching for the second book, at least anytime soon.
I was drawn to the book by the cover and centering story of a wealthy Black family in a historical setting, but the storylines were just too drawn out. Commotion that happened at the very end, I wish happened earlier so we could've had some more active story during the book. I can understand drawing it out for a multi-series story, but it was just kind of a lot of "nothing" happening for 200+ pages. This was perhaps too YA + slow for me.
