Was pondering a 4 but there were too many just like odd things about it. The professor the book is supposed to center around doesn’t have a notable relationship with the main character so his influence feels irrelevant, so much weird stuff was randomly dropped in towards the end and it felt superfluous, and the book ended with a where are they now which I cannot believe made it through the edits. The vibe of the book was strong but otherwise none of the relationships between characters were well established enough to justify the insane things they all did.
