The story was a good one, and I much more enjoyed Hannie’s chapters than the present day. However, the book seemed to go on and on without ever going anywhere. Especially Hannie’s bit the reader never gets to see what comes at the end. Just this long journey and then nothing. The present day teacher storyline was just unbelievable.
There is zero chance a class would turn around like that so quickly. There is not time in one class period to walk to the public library, do work, and walk back. It’s illegal to take students off school property without parental consent.

Felt like the author wanted to write a different take on Freedom Writers and just didn’t quite get there.
