In the Afterlight by Alexandra Bracken
4.0

Alexandra Bracken is the type of writer that writes her novels in a slow-burn manner. You find yourself forcing yourself through the first chunk of the book, just to get to that last 300 pages where it really picks up the pace. I thought I hated it, but finishing this in the last few days has made me realise just how much I love it. Those last 300 pages refer back to the first 200, where context, relationships, emotions have been slowly building in the back of your mind, ready to spill at just the right trigger word.
I’d give this 5 stars, but the frustration of the first half of the book holds me back. I love it so much, but I can see why it would cause people to DNF.

I can only hope the last book of the series keeps up this momentum, although I’m intrigued to know where it’ll go with how this book ended!
