These Broken Stars
by Amie Kaufman
Really enjoyed THESE BROKEN STARS. It's the scifi that I love, more about the characters than the world they inhabit, but the world was still very intriguing as well. I'm not sure if it was intentional but I enjoyed the parallel stories to SOLARIS by Stanislaw Lem in this book. SOLARIS is also more about human nature than it is scifi, as we try to comprehend the alien world around us and it forces ourselves to look within. The love story between Tarver and Lilac was fantastic, and the chilling and creepy parts of the story as they trekked across the alien world had me on edge.
(The cover is very pretty but I don't feel like it reflects the story contained in the pages. There's a disconnect there that I'm seeing expressed in some other reviews.)
