This feels like a mean rating but it just didn't resonate with me. I get the feeling I'm not the target audience. There were definitely some parts that felt painfully dissonant and communicated a story of hurt that was difficult to digest, which were worth appreciating. But the lingo and dated pop culture references made for a text that would need 10 pages worth of footnotes for me to comprehend fully. There was some fantastic stylistic choices in communicating the different characters and their flow that I did admire. All in all though, a difficult read that I can't fully say I enjoyed. There will certainly be people with whom this book delivers a meaningful truth to more clearly.
