Lone Wolf by Jodi Picoult
5.0
I listen to a lot of great books on tape as I paint in my studio (preferring a good book to music) and Picoult’s books are my favorite by far. This book was no exception. I’ve read other reviews criticizing Picoult’s style as “formulaic” and predictable. I find those complaints obtuse. What author who is as prolific as Picoult doesn’t have a formula for their storytelling? Regardless I find each book compelling and beautifully crafted. Her characters are deeply visualized with unique voices, and her research into the subject matter - whether it’s the culture of wolves or elephants or human teenagers - is so well fleshed-out and fascinating.
I loved this book, even as I found the daughter hard to take at times. One other slight disappointment had nothing to do with book itself but the narrator for Georgie. Her cadence didn’t fit with the story or character. I prefer one narrator (George Guidall has always been a favorite).
Great book. Thank you, Jodi for another compelling story.
