A Modest Proposal
by Jonathan Swift
challenging

I'm making a conscious effort to read all (or as many as I can) of the "1001 books to read before you die". This is book #1 in order of "smallest number of pages".
I wish I had read this without having first read what it was about. It took the shock value out of it, entirely. Still, I'm very happy I finally read this. I wish I had read it decades earlier. I'm saying this because, once, years ago, I had written something similar and I was told off in such terms that I never attempted it again. I wonder whether my tutor was unaware of this piece as much as I was. Oh well.
I'm fairly certain that to write this all the way back in 1729 was nothing short of brilliant and extreme.
