I, Zombie by Hugh Howey
4.0

This is not for the faint of heart, or weak of stomach...and I loved it. Hugh Howey, as usual, does not disappoint. He has the ability to pull you into whatever world he has created and holds you there, and in this case, holds you there squirming, and kicking and screaming. Sometimes gagging. There are times I had to pause, look away, take a deep breath, and tell myself to keep reading cuz I knew it was going to be all worth it. I love "The Walking Dead" and "Fear the Walking Dead" and this is was the perfect companion. Finally, I was on the flip-side, inside the dead's heads, feeling their pain and torture and struggle. In this gory, disgusting, torturous world, Howey also somehow gets us to reflect on the events of 9/11, but not in a heavy-handed way. Who knew that a "zombie book" could be so moving and thought-provoking. That is the genius of Hugh Howey.
