It’s always hard to rate someone’s personal account of trauma. Do I think it could have been edited and pieced together better? Absolutely. But am I going to rate low because of the way someone felt inclined to share their story? Absolutely not. This story is full of childhood trauma. I’m not sure why people have complained in reviews that they thought this would be “about a cult not just a bunch of childhood trauma”.
Those people need to read the room and stop talking.
The insight to what it’s like growing up in this crazy ass religious cult is astounding. It’s disgusting, hard to read at times, and humbling. The multiple similarities between growing up as an evangelical Christian baptist in the Bible Belt and the children of God are despicable and honestly not surprising. I felt a strong connection to the author and I’m so beyond happy she was able to find her way. Cheers to undoing years of childhood trauma!
