this book was a beautiful exploration of loss, grief, hope, and so much more. i loved that the novel switches between the perspectives of joe and norma, as we got to explore the effects of the initial tragedy on both of their lives. i also think the author did an amazing job of making every character feel real; never did i feel like any character was stereotypical or one-dimensional. that being said, my one “critique” is that at times the narrative felt rushed (makes sense, we’re covering a 50 year timespan for 2 characters) and i wished for more details about the main characters even during less important times in their lives. overall, such a stunning book!
