Five Little Indians by Michelle Good
5.0
this book was absolutely phenomenal. heartbreaking, but not straying too far from hopeful, my face was covered in tears by the end of it. following five indigenous children during and after their time in a residential school, Five Little Indians illustrates the trauma and horrors of a genocide enacted upon a population and the “rehabilitation” forced on the children of this time. Kenny, Maisie, Lucy, Howie, and Clara are all forced to reconcile their pasts with their future and attempt to live normal lives after surviving terrible conditions as children. their lives interweave one another’s in beautiful and desperate ways. told with so much empathy and knowing, this book astounded me completely.
