The Recruit
by Robert Muchamore
✨Synopsis✨
James comes from a dysfunctional family, and is often in trouble at school. When his mother dies, James is sent to a children's home, but here he is recruited into the ranks of CHERUB - a secret organisation established during World War II, which trains children as spies. CHERUB agents live in the real world, slipping under the adult radar and collecting information that sends criminals and terrorists to jail - and for official purposes, these children do not exist.
✨My Thoughts✨
I have been feeling quite slumpy recently so decided to reread a few of this series that I absolutely loved as a teen because I just knew I could fly through them and that with them being YA they just wouldn’t be too deep and I was also just so intrigued to look back at them as an adult. This series definitely started my love of found family and I always adored a boarding school type setting. What I found so laughable reading these back is how much older the characters acted than their age even in their dialogue, it didn’t really bother me because I probably wanted them to act like older teens but it’s just funny that the first time I’d have read them I probably thought I was more mature too. i do really like the concept of these books and the kids getting involved in huge criminal rings to solve crimes and I definitly found them so easy to just breeze through. They were a great reminder of why I love to read. I may or may not continue reading them as I feel they will only get better as the characters get older
