REVIEW: wow wow wow. This was such an emotional, gut wrenching read. I don’t know all the technicalities or rules to writing poetry (rhyme & meter) but I do know that s. rae’s words evoked a plethora of feelings in me. I love that we were taken on a journey, the first half of the book is pretty dark but by the end there’s pockets of sunshine & hope with a side of that all too familiar feeling of regret. As a survivor of a suicide attempt myself there were certain poems that punched me in the chest. I legit had to put this down about halfway through bc I was so overcome with emotions. Ya girl CRIED. There were other poems that talked about the aftermath of an attempt & the author’s hope for the future was palpable. I’m definitely not in the same healing era that she is but it makes me think that I can get there. Her hope has made me feel hopeful. I made some notes during reading so I wouldn’t forget certain poems that resonated with me, I’m pasting them below:
