A perfect mix of creepy goodness and feminist ferocity. Leigh Bardugo stuns with her adult debut (and it is ADULT - YA Bardugo fans, proceed with caution). Part fantasy, mostly paranormal murder mystery, and imbued with all the power of a true survivor, Ninth House will lead you to the edge of a cliff before taking a sharp u-turn into the unexpected. I fell in love with Alex from the off, and Darlington soon after - their often-questionable choices lending ever more depth and power to their stories.

The narration was stellar as well - the pacing, cadence, and character differentiation perfect and utterly mesmerizing.
Highly recommend, especially to fans of Claire Legrand's [b:Sawkill Girls|38139409|Sawkill Girls|Claire Legrand|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1518809258l/38139409._SY75_.jpg|56431700]. And I'll be updating my 4.5 > 5 stars now that I've had some more time to sit with it. I'm so excited for the sequel, though with that ending, I would have been perfectly content with a standalone as well.
