Lizards Hold the Sun by Dani Trujillo

3.0

I really loved the premise of this story - it was really unique and refreshing to read a book about Indigenous romance. Unfortunately, it just fell flat for me. The time jumps moved so quickly I felt like we never really had any time with the characters or really got to see the relationship build up; I think having the book be a bit longer could have helped this.

The archeology aspect (which was super interesting) could have benefited from some more focus as well. It felt like a big draw to the book but then never fully delivered on it.

The writing was also quite repetitive at times and there were several typos. Being a self-published book, I think it just needed another round of edits to address these. I would still read this author again, as I think they have a lot of promise, and just hope their writing continues to evolve.
