The World Turned Upside Down by Kate Flournoy

4.0

I read about God in this book. You can read it as a typical questing/sword fight/good vs. evil fantasy.
Or you can read it as a story about mercy, grace, and redemption.
Because it was a short story, there wasn’t enough time to deeply develop the characters, but I enjoyed what I learned of them anyway. And the suspense throughout creates curiosity and many questions: Who are these people? Who is good and who is evil? What were the young boys training for?
Ultimately, it comes down to one question: is good strong enough to destroy evil?
Very good fantasy! Some repetitive actions (“he drew his hand over his face”, “he fought the vomit in his throat”) but not enough to spoil the story. I think I would enjoy other books by this author.
