The Price of Salt, or Carol by Patricia Highsmith
4.0

Stream of consciousness: I keep thinking about this book in relation to Daphne du Maurier's Rebecca. Even with full knowledge that it's a happy ending with the protagonist and Carol reuniting, seeing Therese's way of living after their split and before their reunion I kept thinking about the climactic scene in Rebecca after the protagonist expels her (Rebecca) from her mind, where she 'cleans house', ordering flowers and food, doing as she pleases, renewing her life. I'm not sure Carol (the character) is a benevolent force or even meant to be, even though it's clearly a happy ending.
