It seems this book is one of the less popular in the series but the first act is a banger! I expected the usual London debut season for Morgan but instead she's in Brussels and at Lady Richmond's ball on the eve of Waterloo. And getting sized up by a rake with a grudge, obvs.
I didn't even hate it when the action moved back to England and became way more sedate. I was really interested to find out how Morgan would get herself out of the corner she'd backed herself into re. making Gervase love her and then intending to abandon the betrothal when she herself was in love with him and wanted to marry him -- I thought Balogh tied that in really well with Gervase's forgiveness of Marianne and Henrietta and his father, putting the past behind and moving on, taking a leap of faith, etc. Gervase himself I wasn't super into for whatever reason; I thought he was at his best in Brussels when organising the medics and searching for Alleyne.
