Symptoms of a Heartbreak by Sona Charaipotra

3.0

haven’t been so wrapped up in a book in a while, honestly! however, despite all the fault in our stars comparisons, i feel like this book would’ve been 10x better without the romance. it felt forced—there was zero chemistry, absolutely none. link was about as charming as a stale piece of bread. also it was just STUPID like
WHY ARE THEY KISSING IN THE HOSPITAL WHERE ANYONE CAN STUMBLE UPON THEM.
idc if love makes you crazy! have some common sense! as loathe as i am to admit it, john green did it better.

i feel like if the author discarded the romance and instead focused on the relationship between alina and saira
(especially saira dealing with her death, instead of just glossing over it in favor of describing more of saira and link’s romance :/)
, messy desi family dynamics, the falling out between lizzie and saira, etc this would’ve been a much more interesting book. still an enjoyable read, though!
