This was a beautifully and lyrically write novella. It is not a ghost story. It is a story with ghosts - apparitions and memories. Jiang's writing was philosophical and meaningful. The characters were intriguing and the world was so imaginative. The novella delves into loss, grief, and family relationships, so check content warnings before reading. It is one of those stories that stay with you after you're done reading it. I was shocked when I read it, and melancholy just after reading it, and while I'm writing this review I am pensive and reflective. This rollercoaster of feelings and emotions makes me want to re-read it again to see if there is more to discover. I thought this was a spooky read for spooky season, but it's so much more.
