The Beekeeper of Aleppo by Christy Lefteri
4.0

It took me quite a while to get into this and I had to pace myself as it was quite heavy and emotional.

The book follows Nuri and his wife, Afra as they desperately make their way to England in the hopes of being granted asylum. Whilst I can't really say that I enjoyed this, it opened my eyes to the hallowing experiences that many refuges are currently facing.

Christy has a beautiful way of making you feel like you are walking down the streets with the characters themselves through the way that she perfectly describes the smells and background noises. It's interesting as Nuri's wife is blind and it's like Nuri is describing the world as if was retelling the story to her.

As I made my way through the book, I got emotionally invested in where Nuri's journey would take him and I divulged the last couple of chapters in one sitting.

A hard read, but incredibly powerful and beautiful at the same time.
