SUMMARY: (SPOILER WARNING)
After killing off her father and the majority of the lackeys in his gang, the Timberwolves, five years ago, Hades took his place as head of the gang.
For the past five years things have gone pretty well. But now she is starting to receive threats that hint that perhaps her corrupt ex fiancé might not be dead — even though she’s the one who shot him between the eyes.
And on top of the recent threats, her love life is feeling like a bit of a mess. She’s had a crush on the head of one of her rival gangs (Cass) for awhile. Her relationship with her best friend Zed has been feeling a little different lately. And she recently met a young guy (Lucas) who strangely seems like a just a normal guy — but even he has some secrets of his own.

REVIEW:
This was so good! After reading the Madison Kate series a few months ago (and loving it) I was looking forward to this series. Hades doesn’t appear in that series (except a brief appearance at the end of the book), but she’s talked about. And I was also looking forward to learning more about her relationship with Cass, which was hinted at in those books.
Admittedly, I actually put this one off because I hate the cover. I’m sorry, but it’s a terrible cover. The other three in the series are okay, but this first book cover is so ugly. I can’t picture Hades that way. When I finally got over that and just found an alternative picture to cast for her, I was able to finally dive in. I know, don’t judge a book by its cover, but it’s hard to get past a really bad one sometimes.
And oh boy am I glad I finally started it! Hades is a great heroine. She’s badass, but also very real and not overly stoic. She’s actually incredibly vulnerable but so good at putting on that mask.
I also love all of the guys. It’s different than MK’s books because the three guys aren’t best friends already. While Zed and Cass know each other professionally, they aren’t necessarily friends. And Lucas is a whole new person to them. But I love each of them for different reasons.
Lucas is fun and flirty with a dose of the forbidden. He’s also younger than Hades (she’s 23 and he’s 18), which is a twist. But he’s so innocent and sweet, while also having a bit of a naughty streak to him too. I hope he’s okay! My poor sweet Lucas!
Zed is the classic BFF who is clearly in love with her but she isn’t seeing it. Hades claims to have tried to make a move on him seven years ago and him turning her down, so they have been firmly in the friend zone since then. But he’s clearly catching feelings for her and it’s adorable to see their slightly awkward interactions that are walking the line of their friendship. They’ve also been through a lot and have a really strong connection you can really feel.
Cass is that older stoic brooding sexy man beast. He is eleven years older than Hades (so he’s 34) and he insists he’s too old for her (umm no lol). She recently attempted to kiss him and he shot her down. But he clearly isn’t neutral towards her as he kissed her later on. And we also know from MK’s books that he’s been crushing on her too. But he’s stubborn! Still, he’s so sexy and I love their interactions.
So I love all three guys for different reasons. Since they aren’t already friends, I’ll be curious to see how the relationship transitions to a reverse harem. But it’s gonna be a fun journey getting there!
And the suspenseful plot about her past coming back to haunt her is so good too! I can’t wait to see where it all goes. I’m just gonna go ahead and binge these like I did with MK’s book. Tate James is such a good author. Love these books. Perfect!
