I absolutely loved this. Smart, funny, characters you can empathize with straight away, and not too silly - authors like Baddiel and Walliams irritate me with the over-the-top daftness, but Welford gets it just right. For me it had the extra joy of being set somewhere I love (where my husband grew up) so the familiarity was wonderful. Immediately bought a copy for my Y6 daughter and will be looking to get it on the school library shelves. Bought Welford's next book immediately too, and if that's not a glowing review, I don't know how else to persuade you!
