The Heart Goes Last
by Margaret Atwood
adventurous
funny
mysterious
tense
medium-paced
Ever since I picked up The Handmaid's Tale and read a couple of her short stories for my Bachelors Degree, I have wanted to pick up more by the Canadian legend, Margaret Atwood. I keep and eye out at charity book sales and discount book stores, and I found this gem.
Now, I did read other reviews before I picked this up and knew going in it wasn't considered one of her best dystopian novels, but I think it was pretty darn good. I was glued to it until the last 20% where I feel like it kind of fell short. Regardless, I liked it. This "perfect" little city was clearly going to be a world of greed, and the way it kept spiralling into insanity... So interesting. Clearly, it's satire, so take this book with a grain of salt.
But some of the sarcasm and comedy in it is peak. It's great.
So, regardless of if this is her best book or not, it was enjoyable and I now need to keep working my way through her back catalogue.
Four out of five stars.
