Frozen Hearts by R.A. Smyth

5.0

Frozen Hearts is the first installment in a dark, gripping, bully reverse harem romance. I was completely sucked in right from the beginning, and it's been a while since I've read a reverse harem quite as dark as this one. It deals with some really difficult and emotional topics and I thought the author did an excellent job of balancing out the hard to read emotional aspects with the steamy scenes as Riley interacts with each of the men. Frozen Hearts hits the gamut of tropes here and it does it all really well - from the bully situation between the three men and Riley, to seeing her going through her life and trying to get through started a new school.

When we are first introduced to Riley we figure out early on that she is dealing with some tragic and toxic things from her past and trying to simply forge ahead keeping her head down and getting through life. We meet each of the men over the course of story, especially as they come into contact with Riley and I loved how they are were really distinct characters with their own difficulties, and as different as they are, they have a really tight friendship. That adds to intrigue and suspense as the story moves forward. The college setting worked really well because we get some great interactions with the classroom, studying and partying scenes and it's juxtaposed well with the really dark aspects we get as things move further along. I felt like I was on the edge waiting to see what would happen next and how everything would play out and come together. I can't wait for the next installment to this series!
