in2words 's review for:
David Copperfield
by Charles Dickens
So far this book has many surprises, from when I read back in school days
... I now have a greater respect for Dickens' use of language and ability to use words, a phrase to convey so much. I've always known he was considered a great writer but reading this in print is giving a deep appreciation of his craftsmanship
... Since this is a library book, and I haven't been rushing the reading -- had to replace the hold and then wait for it to come back in
(evidently, the popularity of the related book - Barbara Kingsolvers' "Demon Copperhead" is causing or adding to, "David Copperfield" popularity on the library hold's list. For instance, it is entertaining to see how Kingsolver adapts the names of characters in David's life to this of modern day Demon's life, as one example so far ...)
So, i'm not quite finished but looking forwarded to where Mr. Copperfield goes next on his life journey. (More on Demon Copperhead, later. I've started reading that book too -although, reading David Copperfield isn't a prerequisite - it does enhance the enjoyment.
Highly recommend both books -- so far. Alas, will finish in the New Year ... time to get ready to party!! Happy New Year!! A new year of reading!
lol
