Boy Swallows Universe by Trent Dalton
4.0

Poor young Eli Bell was raised under unfortunate circumstances by his mother who has been a victim of addition and her partner Lyle who deals drugs for the good of the family. Their family unit is as rough as they come but their hearts are in the right place. Eli and his brother August are wise beyond their years and exhibit some strange tendencies that you later learn are the result of early childhood trauma. the book spends its entire lifetime walking the line between pure fiction and possible truth. the story is bizarre but, given the boys turbulent past, not at all unlikely. You want nothing but the best for these boys who in the end are resilient, adaptable and admirable.

This book speaks volumes to what children can (but shouldn't) endure.

Slow to start but worth it in the end.
