Failed It!: How to Turn Mistakes Into Ideas and Other Advice for Successfully Screwing Up by Erik Kessels

4.0

This a brilliant little book about failure and success and imagining what it takes to get places in creative industries. I found this book in the art section, and focuses heavily on art, photography and visual media - but I'm not opposed to studying things like art to illustrate what you can improve on in day to day life, how these things affect our culture, and how we should always learn from our mistakes.

I am becoming more and more enamored with Phaidon's publishing - they translate the industry they exist in the most to a wider audience in a fun, expressive and understandable way. And no where is this more evident than with Erik Kessels' work "Failed It!" - I learnt so much from such a small series of theories.

I may not regard it as highly as "The Ways of Seeing", which will forever hold a dear place in my heart, but I will definitely go back to Kessels' work - it's beautifully life affirming stuff.
