The Last House on Needless Street by Catriona Ward

Did not finish book. Stopped at 15%.
" Whether her characters are evil or pitiable, she still contributed to the stigmatization of a marginalized community for the sake of a cheap plot device." - Kay VanAnterpwen, "I'm So Mad About 'The Last House On Needless Street'"

I am so godamn tired of books that fetishize the shit out of our experiences, treat us like bugs under a microscope and write a story about what we experience through the lense of "hahaha, what the fuck am I right? woahh wouldn't wanna be them! look what Crazy things happens in their weird broken brains! haha woah". I don't care if Ward thinks she's doing good. I don't care. If someone's Madness is a fun little nice detail to throw in last minute to Scare and Shock the reader....I just have to laugh. Oh you're doing sooo great sweetie

Oh and NT/ non-Mad folks salivate over this shit. Oh it's so innovative, oh it's so clever, oh it's so fresh. Oh give yourself a pat on the back for not considering mentally ill people = serial killers for 35 seconds.

If you can't write thriller/horror without injecting Madness into your work, you are a shit thriller/horror writer. Utter dogshit.
