Wires and Nerve, Volume 1 by Marissa Meyer

Considering I don’t read graphic novels typically, I am not surprised that this was not great for me. I was hoping that the world and characters would make it really good, or at least entertaining, but since it is written as a graphic novel it felt like it was written completely devoid of emotion. This format also limits what can happen in the space of the graphic novel. There were no shocking twists and I felt very distanced reading it. Also, there was a lot of recap about who the characters were, and the book was so short that this took away valuable page space from something actually entertaining. I liked the characters and want to know what is happening after the end of Winter, but I wish there was another option, I think it could have been done better if it was not a graphic novel, maybe like a novella. Iko also seemed like the only character who had had much thought put into her design, and the rest were pretty generic looking, and would not have seemed noteworthy or recognizable if not for their names.
