This definitely wasn't what I was expecting (I thought I was meant to be a traditional horror novel), but I read it entirely in one sitting, so that in and of itself says something about how captivating this book was.
Bobby, his family, and the people he interacts with throughout the story are incredibly complex, imperfect and well-written, and while the story isn't a predictable thriller, it may have actually been made all the more terrifying by the fact that the horror elements are always in the background and never truly the focus of the story.
I am rarely as confused by an overall Goodreads rating as I am about this one. I suspect its low rating may have something to do with the fact that it's a drama with horror elements, as opposed to a horror story with some drama, and it was marketed in a strange, slightly misleading way.
Regardless, it was actually SO GOOD. I highly recommend this.
