This was a delightfully whimsical fairytale. It's a better version of Cinderella, which the author explains in her afterword, which I appreciated. Effie is a strong but flawed FMC. She comes across as very real. Her frustrations will be relatable, and the book may make you tired just reading about all the work of the household staff, but their journey to empowerment is with it!  Lord Blackthorn is such a funny and optimistic character. I loved him and hope we see more of him in the future. It was also nice to get a cameo from Lady Hallowvale. I think I got more of an emotional punch from the first book, hence the slightly lower rating, but this was a solid addition to the world.
