katterina 's review for:
Battle Royale
by Koushun Takami
I read this book years ago as a teenager and thought, wow, this is amazing (while also thinking, wow, this is disgusting.) I felt it needed a reread as an adult. Parts of the book had stuck out to me (i.e. the axe in the face), but I couldn’t remember exactly what all happened. After my reread? I still think it is an amazing book. Takami makes you either 1) fall in love with the characters or 2) absolutely hate the characters, in sometimes only a chapter (some characters get multiple chapters). There are authors out there that aren’t able to do that in a whole book. I think Takami does a brilliant job at illustrating everything, from the character’s personality to the specific gory details, nothing gets left out.
