The Art of War by Sun Tzu, Lionel Giles

This gave me a different perspective on the world. I’ve never read a military book like this. This one was definitely stepping out of my comfort zone. It’s one of those books that allows the reader to interpret the content in different ways every time. I definitely will be reading this again and I’m sure I will get new things out of it on the second go around.
It was filled with a lot of thought provoking strategies and discussion points. I think it’s interesting to look at different fields and see if these strategies would apply outside of the scope of just the military.

The main surface points I got from this book were:

•Know your enemy and know yourself.
•Appear weak when you are strong, and strong when you’re weak.
•Attack when the enemy is unprepared
•Be flexible
•Make use of spies
•Don’t spread your forces too thin. Instead, concentrate your forces on a single point of attack.
•Use terrain to your advantage, it can be a powerful tool in battle.
